Our favorite spot is Salem Lake, a scenic 7-mile trail circling a pristine reservoir. This well-maintained trail is perfect for a morning walk or a leisurely jog, offering breathtaking views of the water, shaded paths, and plenty of spots for your dog to splash around. Salem Lake is a must-visit whether you’re an avid hiker or just looking for a peaceful place to stroll.

If you’re in the mood for a walk closer to town, The Greenway is a network of trails weaving through the city, offering a mix of urban and natural scenery. It’s a great way to explore Winston-Salem on foot, with plenty of spots to stop for a coffee or a bite to eat along the way.

For off-leash fun, look no further than Tucker’s Tap Yard, a dog-friendly bar and social space. With expansive outdoor seating, pet-friendly amenities, and a welcoming vibe, it’s the perfect spot to unwind after exploring. Enjoy a local craft beer while your pup makes new friends! Remember that you’ll need recent vaccination records to purchase a day pass. This is the perfect place to catch an afternoon game and let your pups get their wiggles out!

Another favorite is Hanes Park, a large, centrally-located park ideal for a casual picnic or an afternoon of play with your dog. With its wide-open spaces, tennis courts, and walking paths, Hanes Park offers something for everyone. It’s also a great spot to mingle with locals and enjoy some of Winston-Salem’s natural beauty. Hanes Park is walkable from Charcoal Home (less than 1/2 mile) and takes you close to coffee, beers and cocktails, food, and amazing gelato!

For a unique outdoor experience, visit The Coal Pit in the Innovation Quarter. This once-industrial space has been transformed into a vibrant area where locals gather for outdoor events, concerts, and food truck festivals. It’s a great spot to soak in some culture while letting your dog enjoy the bustling atmosphere. Check out local craft beer, wood-fired pizza, and all kinds of great treats in the heart of downtown Winston! This is a great spot for folks with dogs or kids on a pretty day or evening!
